PRLS Congratulates Dr. Nassef Manabilang Adiong on Being Named One of the 75 Most Outstanding Alumni of the University of the East

Dr. Nassef Manabilang Adiong, who graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies from the University of the East (UE) in 2006 and currently serves as the Director of Policy Research and Legal Services at the Bangsamoro Parliament, was honored as one of UE’s 75 Most Outstanding Alumni since 2021. He received his award last June 3, 2024, at the University of the East. This prestigious recognition celebrates his relentless pursuit of justice and knowledge.

Beyond his parliamentary role, Dr. Adiong has made significant contributions to the academic and research community. He has founded four research organizations, initiated five book series, and established a scholarly journal, all aimed at challenging the dominance of Western perspectives in knowledge. His influence extends globally; in 2018, he represented Asia at the International Studies Association’s Global South Caucus, and in 2020, he served as a governing board officer at the World International Studies Committee.

Dr. Adiong emphasizes the importance of balancing academic pursuits, policy reform, and professional family life. He underscores the values of empathy, humility, social ethics, skill development, and the continuous pursuit and advancement of knowledge. Additionally, he highlights the crucial role of researchers in promoting good governance, particularly in legislation and policymaking. Despite his numerous achievements, Dr. Adiong remains grounded, consistently acknowledging that his journey is shaped by a steadfast commitment to the people and causes he advocates for.

Nassef is the founder of Co-IRIS (International Relations and Islamic Studies Research Cohort), PHISO (Philippine International Studies Organization), DSRN (Decolonial Studies Research Network), and BRLN (Bangsamoro Research and Legal Network).
